It is a particular long boat specially made for the Ticino River, it measures from 7 to 8 metres, and till a few years ago it was built in wood. Nowadays the "barcè" is industrially manufactured in metal or fiberglass. It is propelled by a special oar ending in a metal fork. Due to its long drawn-out form it flows easily on the river in every season of the year.
