Landscape

To protect the environment of this area in 1974 the Lombard Region passed a bill instituting the "Lombard Regional Park of the Ticino Valley". It is a consorzium composed of the towns situated on the banks of the Ticino belonging to the provinces of Varese, Milan and Pavia. Hunting is forbidden in the park area as well as the cutting of trees. Nobody can modify the woods or quarry in the riverbed or build new buildings. Since 1980 the "Plan of Territorial Coordination" has become operative and disciplines the complex matter. In 1978 also the Piedmont Region created the "Piedmont Park of the Ticino River" concerning the alluvial zone of Novara province. Now the whole course of the river from the Lake Maggiore to the confluence into the Po is protected.
